I think I can say the following things without really spoiling anything. If you disagree Detoured, by all means delete this message.

Be prepared for one heck of a good time, hairytoes. This episode is one of my top ten favorites.

The Pilot gives us a Mulder unlike the Mulder we see now due to it being the pilot and the character not being "gelled" as you have probably read. He's more open and exuberant and just so much fun, but still "spooky". Agent Scully is so young and fresh and yes, exuberant, too. Yet their basic characteristics are firmly established in this single episode. CSM makes his debut as well, and his silent presence helps set the tone of mystery and conspiracy.

The scene in the pouring rain in the cemetary - you can't miss it, you'll see - is one of my favorite M/S scenes. Watch it closely and you can tell at times they are almost ready to bust out laughing. GA sputters and spits her lines with the rain in her face.. David paces around obviously freezing.. Their noses are red.. This one scene marked the episode for me. I thought to myself, you know, Chantal, either these are the two hungrest actors in Hollywood (Vancouver, but you know what I mean) or this unknown creator of this new show, this...The XFiles... is really going to let all the stops out and give us one hell of a ride if he treats his leading stars like this! I think CC has delivered as promised.

I can't help but grin every time I watch this episode.

Also there are so many good quoteable lines in The Pilot. Two of my most favorite quotes come from this episode: "Agent Mulder believes we are not alone."
Scully:"Time can't just disappear. It's a universal invariant. Mulder:"Not in this time zone!"

Enjoy,
Chantal

  • I hope so too, but I don't think they're going to. Why would FOX be that agreeable? nim -- hairytoes, 23:09:03 03/06/00 Mon
