Subject: X-Files mention in "Newsweek" (vague season 8/9 spoilers)

Well, "The X-Files" is mentioned twice in the current edition of "Newsweek"; once, very briefly, with other long-running TV series that are having their finales this week and at a bit more length in a Q&A with DD.
I'm going to leave a spoiler space and then speculate about the finale. I'm posting it here because this is just speculation, not spoilers. I don't *know* anything. I haven't visited the spoilers board in months. This is just a guess based on the Newsweek interview with DD and the previews that are inescapable for anyone who has turned on FOX in the past week or so. But, just in case I'm right and you don't want to be spoiled, read no further.

I think, in the great traditon of TV shows and movies ranging from "Dallas" to "Newhart" to "The Wizard of Oz", we're going to find out that some portion of the past nine seasons has just been a dream on Mulder's part. The big question is: HOW MUCH???
There's a difference in what I *want* to see happen and what, knowing CC's devious mind, I think probably *will* happen.
What I would LIKE to see: I'd like to find out that sometime after "Closure" (so that the Samantha thing would be dealt with, Fowley would be dead and Mulder and Scully would have, at the very least, progressed to the point of mouth-to-mouth kissing in their relationship) and before "Jump the Shark" Mulder simply fell asleep. I'm not too picky about exactly where.
Ideally, I guess, it would be immediately after the events of "Requiem"; the entire past two seasons could just have been an alien-induced nightmare of Mulder's and he'll come home, unharmed, to find his beloved Scully pregnant with their child. But if it's immediately after "Existence", that's fine, too. Even if it was *before* that, and Scully and Mulder aren't lovers yet, I think I'd be okay with that, as long as the whole tiresome Samantha-Fowley storyline is over with and they've at least taken steps toward becoming "partners" in more ways than one. Like most shippers, I've always felt kind of cheated that we didn't actually get to see much in the way of MSR consumation and, if it hasn't happened yet, maybe we'll get it in the series finale or the next movie.
What I think WILL happen: I think a lot more of "The X-Files" than we've been led to believe will turn out to be a hallucination of Mulder's. They can't quite go with the *entire* series being a dream, as they need an established Mulder-Scully Relationship (relationship meant, here, in the broadest possible meaning of the word; they've got to at least be to the point where they trust each other) to build future movies on. But they could have Mulder waking up to find out, say. . .that he's just recovering from a *LONG* peyote-induced hallucination on the Navajo reservation (end of season two). . or that his office has just caught on fire (end of season five). . .or that he's STILL in the hallucinegenic mushroom slime (end of season six). . .
What does everybody else think??
