they won't have to worry! Actually, I would have them go to a St. Paul Saints baseball game instead of a Vikings game if it's a sporting event they want to attend. I had more romantic ideas for them. One of the neatest places to go is the historic St. James Hotel in Red Wing which is south of the cities. Newspaper delivered to your door, coffee brought to your room and above all, a lot of privacy for a lot of romance, if you get my drift! They then could take a train to Duluth (this is a scenic route) and from there go to one of several hideaways from there. Lutsen is absolutely gorgeous in the winter, and there are other places that are stunning in the fall about this time of year. The leaves' fall colors are just brilliant -- a rental car would take them almost anyplace they would wish. The North Shore Drive is perfect spring, summer or especially Fall and there are tons of Bed and Breakfast Inns up there. Back on the way to Duluth, Spllit Rock Lighthouse just waits for visitors and in Duluth, you can enjoy a really cool boat tour on Lake Superior as well as the water front shopping, etc. At any given time, there are any number of things to see and do up there.

Back in Minneapolis/St. Paul there is of course the Mall of America (with a couple of really great places to eat--romantic, fun and even unique right there in the Mall.) There are any number of hotels in the cities that can provide a romantic hide-away, retreat, or whatever you wish to call it (hehehe). There are various stage shows, museums, concerts, etc. as well as some great places for a romantic dinner. (I'd be glad to baby sit lil William just so they could have fun!)

Of course if they really want to go some place rustic and certainly out of the way, the Voyagers' National Park would work quite well as is the Boundary Waters where transportation is by canoe or backpack.
