that shows generally stay on the air longer than they used to. (This is a partial repost from something I responded to on the Mulder and Scully board.) Most of the "hit" shows of the 1980s (i.e. "Remington Steele", "Moonlighting", "Head of the Class", etc.) were only on the air for four to six seasons. Now, they're talking about taking XF into an ninth season and my other fave, "JAG", is going into its seventh season.
They also seem to be willing to give new, low-rated shows like "TLG" more of a chance to find an audience. As you said, that may be partially due to the fact that CC is the exec producer. It's nice for them, but there have been lots of other shows over the years that might have eventually become hits if they had been given a little more time. A lot of shows I started watching over the years got yanked off the schedule after about six eps.
Maybe it's because there are so many more networks competing for shows now?? Or maybe it's just becoming more expensive to get "new" shows up and running??
