I think there has always been good quality television, in both the US *and* the UK. In Britain, quite a lot of major 'stars' still do television plays and films and sometimes a major series even. It wouldn't be beneath, say, Anthony Hopkins, Ralph Fiennes or Gary Oldman to do television here.

I always thought it was strange (but enjoyable!) how Michael J Fox did 'Spin City' and people like John Goodman was one of the stars of Roseanne. And even Burt Reynolds, once a major Hollywood player (I think he says he was the number one box office draw at one time, which I could believe) did that basketball coach thing, didn't he? I suppose I'd be most amused/amazed if suddenly Julia Roberts was in a sitcom - or Harrison Ford. I bet if you asked *them* about TV, they would be less than enthusiastic. I see what Islandgirl is saying, that DD has done his TV apprenticeship, and I would love him to feel good about his future, through successful film roles. If George Clooney can do it......!!
