Unlike you, I didn't think it was SO obvious that Mulder and Scully are really secretly romantically involved and that they have doubles that share their looks, occupation and track record as partners but that their doubles can't be romantically involved because (snort) that would be too big of a coincidence. That's a heck of a lot of inference from one little comment. You may as well suggest that their dopplegangers really are romantically involved, but they just didn't say so in the report.

Sheisme actually clarified further my perspective on the "7 years" comment. Scully was going to suggest a reason that the two agents would have attacked eachother, but that reason is kind of simplistic since this is the X-files.

And I didn't dismiss the slides and the similarity to the M&S relationship. "Not even I would be so farfetched"-- sounds more like "Partners? Romance? The thought never crossed my mind" said SARCASTICALLY (you missed this the first time) than "That kind of relationship exists only between you and me, Bubba."
