Subject: The new, stupid mythology marches on

You know, I was actually enjoying this ep up until the moment where TLG, Skinner, Marita, Krycek, Mulder and Scully and a carton of chinese food are all standing 'round the table chatting it up. That scene was just too unbelievable. (Hey det, maybe you could put that picture up and we could start a round of "what are they saying?") Anyway, up until that point I was honestly enjoying the plot with Mulder and Scully going back to where they first started. I liked Billy. I loved revisiting the orange X on the road.

The dictionary definition for "requiem" is "a mass for a deceased person." Who the hell is actually being mourned? Did they originally kill off DD and have some kind of action (compared to the complete LACK of action after his disappearance) after his death? How does this fit? Anyone?

Now, seriously about the pregnancy. I really don't think (I hope) the baby could be anyone's but Mulder's. It just seems like unnecessary pain to inflict upon Scully (and Mulder) for the baby to be alien or something. If someone had said "If you become a noromo, we promise that Scully will never be pregnant with Mulder's baby," I would have jumped off the fence immediately. I always enjoyed the UST and Mulder and Scully's unique relationship, but for people that said that a relationship would interfere with the real purpose of the show (PERHAPS IN THE FORM OF A BABY???) I can only say you're right. How the hell does this even begin to work logically? I don't even want to think about the possibility of Scully losing the baby, but *really*!!! Are we going to have to see the Mulder Jr. baby shower? Are Mulder and Scully going to drag the little kid around with them on their cases? How much of the show is now going to revolve around this kid?
I'm sure the baby is Mulder's. He was really concerned for Scully throughout the entire ep, and his inviting Scully into his bed and curling himself around her definitely suggested more intimacy. Then there was that whole thing about stepping back, which I don't think Mulder would have even considered if he did not know that Scully was expecting his kid. And it felt like there was something more when Mulder told Scully he didn't want to lose her.

THE GOOD:
The beloved orange X and Mulder's explanation of why he drew it. Billy and "his father" politely listened to Mulder ramble about lost time et al, reminding me of Scully's reaction to her new crazy partner.

Mulder's and Scully's scenes with the auditor. It was cute when Mulder suggested that they could start sharing rooms. And I like when Mulder comes back and tells Scully about assaulting the auditor. And then Scully's "let's go waste some money"- she loves her work, she's flipping off The Man just like Mulder.

Skinner telling Mulder that "They don't like you."

THE UNFORGIVABLE:
Scully's pregnant.
Scully's pregnant.
Scully's pregnant.
Mulder's abducted.
Mulder's abducted.
Mulder's abducted.
CSM is dead.
(In other words, THE F&*ING MYTHOLOGY!!!!)

Is there ANYTHING left of the old mythology? I don't understand how something so good can turn into something so awkward and vapid. As I said before, I think Mulder's abduction was a total cop out. It felt so fake! Scully barely had any reaction. I don't care if she is pregnant, she should be out there looking for Mulder! Even if she knows it's useless, she shouldn't just sit there on her butt. I know that CC was trying to keep the terrible suspense by putting Scully in the hostpital gown (ooh, is she sick?) but her lack of action felt totally false. Mulder went out looking for her as soon as he came to after being shot IN THE HEAD! Women.

I agree with chantal. I need to take a break from the X-files, this season especially. Hopefully by December or whenever they decide to show the damn premiere this year, I'll be ready and optimistic for season 8.
