Subject: LOVED the episode--want more!!!

Since my computer time is fairly limited today, I guess I would like to comment on the controversial discussion--the "Melody Files."
1. My opinions regarding TV programming have been asked only once (Nielson Rating questionnaire). To be fair to all the programs, I will watch each new program once to decide if it is worth a repeat. For some programs it has been a chore just to finish watching them. I do get irritated when the viewer survey results are posted as if they were RELIABLE, VALID and COMPREHENSIVE ENOUGH (using a large enough sample of viewers to be exact)--they never asked for my opinion. I usually don't (gag, cough, choke) agree with some of their conclusions. What I have found is that the majority of the shows, on major networks, aren't worth the tape they are on, in my opinion. This means that the story line or the format used, etc. are the problem--not the actors themselves. Most of the programming now involves dysfunctional families, soaps, cop shows, lawyers, doctors or poor comedy that just isn't all that funny. There are a few sitcoms out there that stand the test of time but not everyone has quality performers such as Bill Cosby, for example. I watch the story, enjoy the actor's performance and have no problem with their new identy.
2. XFiles--whether one is a shipper or noromo or fence sitter--is a program, I have found, that let's you decide for yourself whether or not something is funny, mysterious, extra-terrestrial, etc. I watch the SHOW without looking at the actors private lives, past performances and programs. I also don't really care about the problems or assumed problems that may be happening with the cast/crew/writers/ etc. XFiles really does put on a wonderful variety of episodes that can meet a wide range of viewer entertainment needs. We all have our favorite episodes, story lines, writers, etc. and that is the beauty of this discussion board.
BTW, my favorite networks are FOX, FX and PBS with a couple of other programs from a variety of networks thrown in for good measure.
