I think that's part of CSM's reason but also because if Mulder found Sam before he did then Mulder would no longer need any connection with the CSM. CSM would have no hold over him. I ws talking to someone else and they thouht that Mulder should never tell CSM that he knows what happened to Sam.

I think CSM was a bit delusional about his role in the Mulder family and I think being Sam's father was just part of that delusion. He had control over her and became a faher figure which as a role hed liked and perhaps made himself believe he was her father. I just don't think he really is her father nor is Mulder his son. Too Star Warsy. We still need a definate answer on the parentage CC!
