KS gets up, dusting herself off. Kande is writhing on the floor, clutching her right foot.
Stardoe sighs heavily, then steps forward. "Let's have a look at the little bugger, shall we?" She gently pries Kande's fingers from the quickly swelling toe. "Mm-hm. Mm-hm," she mutters to herself. "Does this hurt?"
"OOOOOWWWWWW!" Kande screams.
"Is that a yes?"
"Yes! It hurts! Now will you please let go of it?"
"Oh. Sure." Stardoe loosens her iron grip from Kande's #4 toe. "It's almost certainly broken."
Kande's face goes white. "Broken? I have a broken toe? Tell me, Dr. Stardoe. How do you treat it? You won't need to operate, will you? Will I be on crutches for months? Or in a wheelchair? Tell me - I can take it."
Stardoe gives the snickering crowd a puzzled look. "Umm...Kande? It's a broken TOE."
"Yes, yes. I heard you."
"You don't do anything for a broken toe, except maybe tape it up."
"That's it? But look at it!" Kande holds up her foot. Her toe has already turned black and blue.
Stardoe shrugs. "Sorry. Medical science hasn't advanced far enough to effectively deal with broken toes." This seems to mollify kande.
"Bubba! Bring me two diet root beers. One for me and one for my toe."
Bubba waddles over with the bottles. He hands one to Kande and plops the other one down on her foot with a little more force than necessary.
