I wake to the cold realization,
this once hot relation,
now unavailable for investigation,
a prelude to the inevitable,
seemingly unbearable future I'll
be forced to withstand,
not holding your hand,
or hearing your demands
for rubber bands or retirement plans,
spending extended moments pretending
your emotions aren't still pending,
and that my heart won't need mending,
as you shoot your condescending, apprehending
glares, while not intending to break my heart,
is there an option to restart?
Reset this life,
or at least to meet you pre-wife
