there are laws in this state that govern the way you can discipline your child legally. my daughter screamed at me and called me a lier, after which she recieved the "slap in the mouth" that you spoke of. nothing like the left hook my father would have given me but a slap all the same as i thought any parent would do in that situation. well the "so called" resouce officer at the high school (not mrs tripp, she is an extremely good person) made a big deal of it and got CPS all up on me over it! they promptly showed me the state law which says you can whip your child with a belt from the beltline to the back of the knees and leave minor bruising. i was stunned to say the least but it was presented to me by CPS as the law in this state but believe me, that dont work either if a child has it in their head to rebel and do as they please. Maybe many parents fear loosing their child so they are lax on them. i feared that too but wasnt easy on the rules,... i lost her anyway and now she hates me. i guess tuff love goes both ways, she isnt pregnant, she is being taken care of and is well behaved and is making all A's in school, but the price i pay for that is unbearable at times, it is a small price to pay for your child's safety and well being so what is a parent to do you might ask? teach the children the rite way from birth and if there isnt a catastrophic event in their family like happened to mine, they will most likely do as my children did until our family fell apart. you never know what a child is living with at home and it can be overwhelming to them. sure it is the parents responsibility to teach them respect and dicipline, but it is our responsibility to show them a positive attitude, even when they are being negative! i remember once when i was a youg man and was very abrasive to everyone. there was this one guy who listened to my rants and raving and foul mouth, when i was finished he walked rite up to me and said "even though you are a butthole now, God still loves you". i remember that to this day. yes i did find out that God does loves me and that one statement that guy made is still in my mind some 25 years later,.... i just wish there had been more comments like his and maybe i would have calmed down sooner. above all, Christ and church is the key to raising a good child, especially in this day and age! i know if i didnt have him now i simply could not go on without my daughter but i know she has him in her heart and that she sees where she strayed. remember when we use to say the Lord's prayer in school? we all know what happened after it was abolished,... we're living in it now.
