I just want to get some feedback from some of those out there that support the dance team. It has been brought to my attention that they are no longer going to be able to dance at Football games this upcoming year. The reason being because "no other team goes year round except for dance and that isn't fair to other teams". Cheerleading DOES go year round, but they have split their squad up into several different teams..(this being because of administration or choice by the girls), all of the other sports obviously do not go year round for a reason. These girls and parents pay out anywhere from $700-$900 to dance. This is not a price you want to pay for maybe 2 or 3 months of dancing. Whether they cut out football or not the team still has to pay that much with uniforms, camp uniforms, competition choreographer, and any other expenses that have to be paid for. I know that if this decision was made while I still danced, my whole team would be taking this to the school board. Dancers get 1 to 2 minutes of time while out on the field or court during halftime and this is only at home games. Why take that away just because someone doesn't think that it's fair for dance to go year round?? I know from experience that it takes alot of hard work and dedication to make a dance look good enough to perform in front of all the fans and families and friends at a game. And even if football season is cut out they are still going to be practicing all the time to get to perfection. Also, the whole time I was in high school dance was not referred to as a sport. It was considered an "art". So why does it really matter if it goes year round or not. obviously someone doesn't think of it as a sport so people shouldn't be mad that it goes year round with the same girls. I just don't understand why anyone would want to do that to these girls and their parents.
