Subject: safety patrol at elementary schools....is this the norm??

I went to Luttrell Elementary School right before spring break to pick up my daughter and noticed that a 5th grader was putting kids into the cars in line...is this normal? I thought that we put names on our lists of people that can or can't pick up our kids for a reason. I know that the teachers need help with the afternoon traffic but I'm just not comfortable about another child putting my child into a car, how does this child know whether or not my child is supposed to go with this person? I know that every single person can't be checked or that even the teachers can't be sure 100% of the time but isn't that why we intrust them with our children and why we don't have 5th graders teaching 3rd graders and so and so.

But my question is...do other schools do this, I mean letting kids put kids into cars or is this just a "Luttrell thing" also I'd like to hear some comments on this situation before I approach the principal I'd like to know if I'm over reacting.
