The game takes place in a country called Holden Kade.
Following are details of locations:

Idgia -- A small village, home of the Simbani tribe.
Kallan, a branch of the River Caridad, runs
through this village. The Simbani are wary
of strangers.

Tarna -- Holden Kade's largest city, populated by
humans and very few elves. Atmosphere is
largely pre-thirties America, Victorian
buildings and Prohibition people, but with
all of today's technology, and then some.
Sort of, historical sci-fi. A Prohibition
on alcohol and caffeine is in effect. Tarna
is walled, and its citizens usually stay
within these walls; passage is not, however,
restricted. People just don't want to
leave; and there are legends that keep most
everyone else from coming in. The tribal
villages know nothing of Tarna's technology.

Mahina Grasslands -- Lush meadows, wildflowers,
bordered by the River Caridad
and Lake Chance. Mahina is used
by Idgia, Ryva, and Dessa as
hunting grounds.

Krisha Mountains -- More or less uncharted land;
there are dwarves in the Krisha
Caverns, and rumours of dragons
flying over the mountains.

Lake Chance -- The air above the lake shimmers, and
there is a legend:
An enchantress was lured into the lake
by her lover; in short, her lover was
in league with a monster who lives in
the lake, and the monster took the
enchantress as his slave. Instead of
granting the enchantress's lover
special powers, as was the deal, the
monster ate him. As the last of her
free will faded, the enchantress tried
to fight the monster; she threw a
stream of energy at him, and missed.
This energy was trapped over the lake,
and causes the air to shimmer. As is
the will of the monster, the former
enchantress wanders the lake's shores,
luring unsuspecting people into the
lake, and the monster eats them.

The River Caridad -- The waters are clear, drinkable,
and lined with polished rocks.
Flows northward.

Caridad branch Kallan -- Water is a murky purple, and
flows into Caridad. It is
drinkable, but the purple
colour unnerves some people
who are not used to it.

Ryva -- A tribal village, but very open to all races
and species.

Dessa -- Occupied by Liontaurs, who are rather like
lions only with a humanlike torso and an
extra set of arms. Liontaurs tend to be
hostile to any other race who nears their
village. The village is well set up,
surrounded by a thick stone wall, with
sturdy houses in neat rows. Because of the
warm, dry climate and nonexistant crime,
doorways and windows are open squares. The
Liontaurs like to live lavishly, so
furniture is big and soft and every building
is decorated with bright reds and golds.

Krisha Caverns -- Vast cave system under and in the
Krisha Mountains, populated
exclusively by dwarves.

Game play is fragmented: Threads should take place
in a certain area. A subject might be "Idgia: Gypsies
Arrive", or "Dessa: Stranger in Town".

There are two Gypsy bands that roam throughout Holden
Kade, the land Gypsies and the River Gypsies.

The land Gypsies travel in caravans, groups of
covered wagons drawn by draft horses. They keep many
dogs; these are their defense system and hunting aids.
The wagons are often covered with brightly coloured
fabric, and many clanging and useful things hang from
the sides. Here are some examples of typical land Gypsy
dress. Children caper with the dogs, as the wagons move
along. The land Gypsies are a link between the
villages. They carry news. They trade with the
villages. They never go into Tarna; their lore forbids
it. The land Gypsies follow the Way of Hope, explained
here:

"Those who follow the Way of Hope will not harm
anyone else. If someone were to attack them,
they would let themselves be defeated, for they
live in the hope that one day, the violence will
end. They never touch swords, and use other
weapons only for practical purposes (axes to chop
wood and knives to cut up food and things). They
consider anyone who does not follow the Way of Hope
to be lost."

The river Gypsies travel the rivers in all sorts of
boats. The famous show boat, the Creole Blossom Floating
Theatre, is Gypsy-run, as are several other show boats.
The river Gypsies are the stereotypes of the Roaring
Twenties, the sheiks and the shebas of Prohibition--
for the women: short, beaded dresses, feathered
bandeaux, lipstick, rouged cheeks, bobbed hair; for the
men: plus-fours and informal sweaters or ill-fitting
single or double-breasted suits, slicked back hair; for
both sexes: hip flasks, bootleg liquor, cigarettes,
nonsensical songs. River Gypsies often make and sell
liquor; the show boats all have saloons inside. While
on the River Caridad, in Tarna, these saloons are
considered safe from the authorities; the rivers are
neutral ground, as it were. The river Gypsies do,
however, supply the inland speakeasies with liquor and
caffeine. They sometimes ferry people across the
rivers, or even up and down them, if the person trusts
them, and has money. The river Gypsies do not follow
the Way of Hope, and think the land Gypsies silly and
weak.

There are vampires sprinkled throughout Holden Kade,
with a higher vampire population in Tarna. They do not
hide themselves, just what they are. They are safer in
Tarna; if they are caught in the tribal villages, no
telling what would happen to them. They are not bothered
by garlic or crosses (except silver ones), but I imagine
a spike through the heart wouldn't be too pleasant.

Theoretically, just about anybody could be from
anywhere, but it's more realistic if, oh, say, a half
dragon half dwarf came from the Krisha Mountains, or a
half elf with wings at least lived in Ryva.

Any class or profession can be used, unless it's one
of the slightly sci-fi things in Tarna and you've put it
as native to anywhere else, or if you've made a land
Gypsy a warrior or something else with the slightest bit
of violence.
