didn't recognize CSM as an old family friend the first time he ran into him!! From some of they mytharc eps, you get the impression that the Mulders and Spenders all hung out a lot together, water skiing, wife swapping, whatever.
Yet, when a grown-up Fox Mulder first ran into CSM he didn't say: "Hey, Mr. Spender! What's up? I haven't seen you in years! How's your dweeby little boy Jeffrey?". . .he just acted like the man was a complete stranger to him!
I guess we could figure it's either: 1.) some sort of Consortium induced selective amnesia, through hypnosis or whatever 2.) a major lack of continuity and common sense on the part of CC or 3.) That maybe, if you haven't seen somebody since you were 12 years old and you run into them again when you're 33, you just don't recognize them.
Any of the same examples could apply to Jeff forgetting he also had a sibling-like relationship with a girl named Samantha for part of his childhood.
