Yes, certainly the best thing would be to prevent colonization without ever having to alert the masses to the danger they are in. I just don't know if prevention is possible. Corrupt though they may be, I can't really see the syndicate members being too thrilled and delighted at the prospect of having to serve alien masters. Maybe they're hoping that by the time it actually happens they'll all be dead and it won't make any difference to them anymore. Or maybe they're getting something from the aliens (other than just a promise of survival) that we don't know about yet. What I've never understood is why they would trust the aliens to keep their promises.
