I think that the cancer chips are a different from the nano technology things. I think that so far, Krychek (and who ever else he now works for) are using it as a high-tech way to blackmail their victims--control them. I hope that we are given more information on all the possible uses--I still think that they were part of Mulder's Season 7 first episode "experience."

I agree that the nano things are further advanced--I just don't know yet where they are coming from--alien or rebel?

The chips called people to the bridge so I think that perhaps they are cataloging and tracking devices for the aliens. When they were examined at the FBI, the lab tech said that he hadn't ever seen this kind of technology before--he thought perhaps someone in Japan might be able to make them.

A good subject to ponder. YES, DEFINITELY because I think that these items are ones which science is currently working on in real life--frightening thought!
