OK, so now you can tell why I didn't go for teaching as my career! The nick is a slang term for jail or prison (not in jail or in prison) so you could say 'He's banged up in the nick' (translation: 'He's been sent to jail')

A cop might say 'You're nicked' meaning 'You're under arrest'.

The reason the comedian used the term 'nick-nick' is about as clear to me as it is to you. ;o) I suppose he thought it was funny to use the slang word 'nick' to indicate that the character he was playing was a copper. Kind of like kids running around the playground making 'nee nah, nee nah' sounds to indicate a siren.

Does it make sense now? :o)
