Subject: Krycek vs Spender? No comparison (S6 spoilers)
In reply to: ducky2 's message, "Re: Krycek vs. Spender" on 17:37:54 11/27/99 Sat

In my mind you can't even begin to find similarities between Spender and Krycek. They are two completely different creatures.

I think that perhaps they began in the same situation, as a pawn placed to keep an eye on Mulder, to attempt to keep him in check. But that is where the similarities end.

Spender spent his entire life that we saw as a push over. An FBI agent whose path of mediocrity was interrupted by the chance to have some semblance of power. Because he had no real convictions he was easily swayed to follow his father. He wasn't a killer, that's for sure. Did Spender ever kill anyone? I don't think so. He grew up without a father, and suddenly, here was the chance to be a part of his father's life, to prove to him that he grew up successfully without him. What a horrible blow to recieve that slap on the face with the "You pale to Fox Mulder." When Spender finally got up the guts to do what he knew was right and that he didn't need to prove anything to his father, his father kills him. How nice.

Krycek on the other hand. He is no pawn. He may have started out a pawn of CSM's, but as soon as he caught wind of how CSM intended on treating him, he was gone. He didn't feel the need to impress CSM for any reason. He is a creature of self preservation, and he knows that by only doing what CSM tells him to do will not get him anywhere. So, he endeavored to find his own answers, his own way to save himself. And Krycek is a killer. Not because I believe he's evil, because I don't for a second believe he's evil, but because he believes that the ends justifies the means. If finding the way to save himself, to advance his agenda results in the deaths of a few people, so be it. Spender spent his life as a follower; Krycek is most definitely a leader.

Did I go on a little too much with this? Sorry, but I could talk Krycek for hours.
