I don't think Fowley's timing was all that bad. In fact, in terms of the MSR I think it was pretty good. I don't think she was meant to be seen as a realistic love interest for Mulder. If she had come back into the picture earlier in the series she would have been *totally* useless. I think the time of her return was very realistic. Considering she and Mulder have such a deep past, perhaps even marriage, her return when Mulder and Scully are supposedly progressing romantically made the conflict that much more real. Mulder's loyalty to Fowley was as understandable as it was painful to watch. Am I making sense?

My problem with Fowley's character was that she seemed useless to the overall plot. She was thrown in simply to put a wedge between Mulder and Scully. That was her only plot purpose. And that, in my opinion, is a bad reason for a character.

I am looking forward to seeing Marita in S8. I missed that melodramatic gal!
