It's true that Scully doesn't seem to have a great repertoire of friends (male or female). I think the Lone Gunmen consider themselves her friends now, and she seems to like them. Even Skinner could be said to be a friend of sorts. And there was poor dead Pendrell - he could have been a friend if she had been a little more open with him! But I think you are right that Melissa was her closest female confidante and even worse if it is a sister you are close to who dies. I think she and her mother are fairly close and Mom knows very well what Scully thinks of Mulder. It's obvious to a mother! I think in a way, Scully has used Father McHugh and the church to talk to. But I like the idea of conjuring up Tara again. Baby talk and all that...!
