An interesting idea, there, dev! I've never really thought of Melissa as being the reason Dana has problems with any kind of paranormal stuff, but maybe.
What I *have* thought, however, is that a childhood rivalry with Melissa may be the reason Dana is so reluctant to behave in a traditionally feminine or flirty manner! When two sibilings of the same gender are close in age (as Melissa and Dana were) it's common for them to "stake out" different personality traits. In the Scully family, I think Melissa was the "pretty, flirty, but kind of silly" sister while Dana was pegged as the "smart, tomboyish" sister. I think that despite the fact that she's in her 30s and Melissa is dead, Dana finds it hard to embrace any part of her personality that she feels "encroaches" on Melissa's territory.
