Hi everyone,
It's my first time on this board. Does anyone know exactly what Scully's doctoring credentials are supposed to be? I was watching the Erlenmeyer Flask [last show season one] and Scully had to be told the characteristics of bacteria. Then when shown the DNA plastic thingies the tech asked her if she knew what she was looking at and she said "I think they are genes". Then in season 2 after the XF are shut down they send Scully off the Quantico to teach pathology/ autopsies etc to other rookies. So if she can do autopsies and can lecture on the subject wouldn't she know the basic components of a bacterium? But I can accept that she mightn't know much about DNA etc. Although she would have to know something as she would scrape alot of specimens off her autopsy subjects for DNA testing.
All that aside, what really shocked me about this ep was that Scully went and got someone else to do the tests on the stuff she and Mulder found. Now season 5/6/7 Scully would run off and do the tests herself or at least be in cohorts with the lab tech she'd get to do them. Also the recent Scully is very au fait with real scientific stuff. She didn't know about the kymera cells in Redux but she went and performed a Southern Blot test on herself all by herself in apparently record time. In Emily she was au fait with reading DNA results as she was with her own results in Redux.
So has Scully been doing some update courses or something over the past few years? She just seemed surprisingly ignorant in season one compared to now.
