I continue to have my doubts that anybody is REALLY "on board" for a second XF movie. Every six months or so, either DD or CC announces that they're "about to start" another movie but these announcements have been going on for the past five years and, so far, no more movies. If they'd begun the second one when they first began talking about it, they would be about to release a THIRD one by this point!
I think both DD (who is 47) and GA (who is 39) are considered "too old" to be major box office draws at this point in their careers. Mainstream movies with big-budget special effects are aimed at teenage audiences. The show has already been off the air for more than five years; today's teens were in elementary school when it ended and in utero when it began!
I do think there will probably be another XF movie at some point, but just as movies like "Miami Vice" and "The Dukes of Hazard" didn't feature the original actors from the TV shows, my guess is the next XF movie will feature Miley Cyrus as Scully and the kid from "Two and a Half Men" as Mulder or something like that.
