I must admit I liked the ep even before I saw it because GA wrote and directed. Yes, I do agree Scully's actions were right out of charactor for her, but this is how I justify it. Added to CW's excellent points of course. I think Scully would have been more science minded if Mulder was in town and he was involved. When it was her, acting on her own, she was drawing on her own past experiences with the X-Files, and she was willing to give the extreme possiblilities a try.

It was a time of change for Scully, through out the series she did become more open to other explainations. Yes, she did put science first, but was open to the extreme. I think this ep really showed her growth.

Although I think I would have let Waterson die, ugly AND arrogant. What I found strange was that Scully would ever be attracted to him in the first place. Even if she respected his brilliance and talent, he was an arrogant, pigheaded asshole who thought of himself first and hurt too many people. Scully wouldn't go for that kind of man.

Just my humble opinion.
