Subject: I'm *NOT* happy to hear this!!

Like you, K-Mom, I sincerely doubt DD will sign on for another season. And I do *NOT* want to see a season of "Scully-only" X-Files!!
Basically, I think that would totally screw the hell out of any chance for more "XF" movies. DD has said that he wants out of the TV series but would be happy to continue playing Mulder on the big screen. However, if they write Mulder out of the TV series (which they would have to do if DD refuses to come back) it would mess up the MSR and make future movies kind of pointless.
I don't want to sound like I'm attacking GA personally. DD, while strongly identified with Mulder, did at least have an acting career prior to "The X-Files" and probably could continue to get work (even if only in supporting roles rather than leading roles) outside of "XF". DD seems a lot more connected to the Hollywood "establishment" than GA is (i.e. his marriage to Tea, his friendships with Gary Shandling and Bonnie Hunt, etc.) and from what I've heard of the way Hollywood works, getting roles is as much about being connected as it is about talent.
GA, on the other hand, was a total unknown before she won the role of Scully and is probably worried that she might not find much work outside that role. She may also feel that the timetable and security of a TV series meshes more comfortably with her role as a single mother than movie work would.
When a TV show is a hit it is a sad-but-true fact that, once the show ends, the male lead often goes onto even more fame while the female lead lapses into obscurity. Two examples of this are my two favorite shows of the 80s, "Remington Steele" and "Moonlighting". The male leads of those shows, Bruce Willis and Pierce Brosnan, are now major movie stars. The female lead of "Moonlighting", Cybill Shepherd, did get another TV series that lasted a couple of seasons, but it is now cancelled. Laura Zimbalist, the female lead of "Remington Steele", seems to have fallen off the edge of the earth! (The last thing I saw her in was a TV movie about eight years ago.)
So. . .on a personal level, I can understand why GA might feel this is the right decision for her. But as an "XF" fan I think it is awful!!
