In reply to: Melissa 's message, "Scully's not always the one in need of a rescue..." on 11:13:06 11/28/00 Tue

from the very beginning, Mulder and Scully were completely EQUAL partners who pretty much alternated the roles of rescuer and rescuee. In the early seasons, Mulder probably did more physical "saving" of Scully, but there were plenty of episodes where she used her medical and scientific knowledge to save him.
Also — and I think this is an important point that is being overlooked this season — Mulder is a more experienced field agent than Scully. Unless I misread the personnel file that Scully brought up on her computer screen during "Within", Dogsbreath has only graduated from the F.B.I. Academy in 1995. That means he has nowhere near the experiece that Mulder (who has been with the bureau since 1985) or even Scully (who has been an agent since 1991) have.
So. . .it's not really a case of gender or whether or not there's a romantic relationship between the rescuer and the rescuee. It makes sense for the rookie (which Scully was in the first season of XF) to need to be rescued or taught by the more experienced agent (Mulder); but it doesn't make sense for the seasoned agent (Scully in Season 8) to have to constantly be "rescued" by somebody who's only been with the bureau for a couple of years.
