In past years I would have said yes, voices like Stevens and Johnny Cash may not have made it too far. Well Steven's might. I don't think Idol would have turned him down.

But in recent years things have really opened up and there's a wide variety of singing styles, especially this season. The contestant I liked, Paul, was praised specifically for the fact tht his voice was so unique and sounded nothing like they'd ever had on Idol before.

I don't think the songs are watered down, just too short. They have to edit them to fit them all in. That is unfortunate. Less chit chat and less commercials would fix that but that will never happen.

Car chases huh? I usually get pretty bored with those when they show them on the news. One time Fox preempted an entire one hour show I wanted to watch just to show a car chase! Grrr.
