One thing I like about "Burn Notice" is that not all the main characters are the typical hard bodied young adults of most TV series.
Granted, the two really major characters — Michael and Fiona — are a good-looking man and woman in their 30s. But Sam is an overweight man in his 50s and Madeline (Michael's mother) is an overweight woman in her 50s or 60s.
Men in their 50s are not really uncommon on TV shows, but they tend to be in better shape than most men of that age, while Sam looks more like a real-life middle aged man. And women over the age of 50 rarely seem to have leading roles in TV shows at all!
