While part of the reason TV actors seem so "young" to so many of us nowadays is, undoubtedly, that we're all getting older. . .I also think they really emphasize "younger" actors a lot more nowadays than they did back in the 1970 and 80s, *especially* when it comes to women actresses.

There used to be a lot of TV shows with older women as the leads (i.e. "Murder She Wrote" and "The Golden Girls") and I don't think anything like that exists any more. Older men fare a little better (i.e. Mark Harmon on "NCIS" and Gary Sinise on "CSI:NY") but, even there, they tend to hire mostly men under the age of 50.
