Remember he was injured in the same blast that killed Michelle and they brought him back to CTU (because they have the best medical team in all of LA apparently) and then he was getting better and CTU brought in the bad guy who was responsible for Michelle's death and Tony was going to kill him but couldn't go through with it at the last minute and that guy stabbed Tony just as Jack was running in and Jack cradled Tony and was so sad and we both cried and they went to commercial.

At least that's how I remember it.

I'm sure there will be some revisionist history explaining how he survived but Tony was totally dead.
