The show is called "Sunset Heights High" and is from Australia. (See, we do get shows from there! One of the best still being 'A Town Like Alice"). Sunset Heights ran on HBO. I have the rest of the series DVR'ed but haven't watched all the episodes yet.

Here's the thing. We have comics here that can as offensive as all get out. Some of them can be funny and know how to do it. Some of them can't. It's a fine line and you have to be really talented to pull it off. Americans aren't a bunch of softies. We can handle a lot. But the main thing is the supplier has to be very good at what he is doing.

Trying to be offensve just to be funny in the typewritten word is much harder to judge because there's no idea of what intent or feeling is behind it.
Personally I don't care for the Howard Stern shock jock type of humor. That's where these guys say whatever they want, being as crude and outlandish as they possibly can just for the heck of it and often very hurtful and damaging as well. Then they try to excuse it by saying, 'it was a joke, I was just kidding'. I never thought of that as clever or intelligent humor, just tacky. As I said you have to be really talented to pull it off. Most aren't.

Some Americans love the Howard Stern sort of thing so we certainly aren't all cut from the same cloth contrary to what apparently is thought.
