Our big grocery stores are Ralphs, Vons, Pavillions (an upscale Vons) and Gelson's. I know Gelson's is exclusively to Calif. but I always thought Ralphs was national. It also is connected to the name Kroger's as it's owned by Kroger Foods.

We used to have more like Hughes Markets and Alpha Beta but Ralphs bought those up. We now have tons of Ralphs stores.

We used to have Safeway but I think Vons/Pavillions bought that up out here.

Also we have Stater Bros. though none close to me.

BDM, do you mean Walgreens, the drugstore? That's the only one I know. As for drugsores we also hae Rite-Aid (formerly Thrifty Drug). Ring a bell? Even though it's now Rite-Aid they still sell their Thrifty ice cream because it's famous and quite good!
