in this survey was that the median number of hours of TV watched per week varies between nine and 15 hours, depending on age. That seems about right to me. However, a lot of articles about TV I've read in the past always seemed to report some ludicrously high number of hours of TV watched per day -- like that the average American watches six hours per day or something bizarre -- that common sense tells you couldn't possibly be true. I'm below even this more realistic average; I only watch five or six hours of TV most weeks. It will probably be a bit higher during the next month or so, as I sample some of the new shows.
