The way I understand it, the CSI team is only supposed to gather the evidence; it's the detectives who are supposed to actually "solve" the case. So Greg found all the evidence, meaning he did his job right, regardless of whatever misinformed conculusions he may have drawn from that evidence.
This is one of the things that is confusing about CSI, though. On some eps the CSI team will say things like "We're not cops" or "We just gather the evidence, we don't try to make deductions". . .but then, on the very next episode, they'll be pulling guns on suspects and yelling "Freeze, police!" and stuff like that.
