I think orginally it was planned to be a two person show but actually there are at least 6 charcters who appear fairly regularly--not counting lab/dna people and the like.
The two other CSIs we see on cases are a a blond guy (who looks just like actor Greg Kinnear) and a dark hared girl who was on "24" last year. They're in every show. Rounding out the cast is the police guy (similar to Brass's role on CSI) and the pathologist who does all the autopsies played by Hill Harper.

It's rally not to different from CSI in format except that none of the CSIs seem more or less experienced than the others whereas there's a dfinate hiarchy with Grissom in charge and Catherine more experienced than Warrick and Nick who are more experienced than Greg.
