Subject: One of the many 2018 SCFL Draft Previews

A lot of moves this offseason have shaken up the first round
of the 2018 SCFL Entry Draft. The talent pool this year is
considerably deep in some spots and empty in others, which
probably led to some of the teams decisions to move their
draft picks.

I'll go over the first round of the SCFL draft and
make my predictions.

1. Mechanicsville Enforcers - QB Keith Harvey. Expect
QBs to go 1 and 2 this year. Dan Marino Jr., son of the
great NFL QB Dan Marino is the consensus number one. It
doesn't mean that they'll pick him, however. Terry Jordan's
turned a few heads, but I don't see him going in the first
round. The Enforcers seem to like QB Keith Harvey. Harvey
doesn't have the stuff that Marino does, but Marino's
low endurance may be a turnoff. Both QBs are pretty
similar, but the Enforcers seem to like Harvey, especially
after recent workouts.

2. Dan Marino First Plus Mortgage Misfits - QB Dan Marino
Jr. With the retirement of Ed Crowe and losing QB Willie
Pike to Molson during Free Agency, the obvious choice
here is the QB that did not go #1 in the draft. Since I
think Harvey's going #1, the Misfits will take Marino.
I didn't think it was much of a surprise that Marino
performed well for the Misfits in pre-draft workouts, but
not the Enforcers.

3. Muhlenberg Mules - CB Mike Thompson. I think this
is a surprise pick. The Mules could go with Marcus Lord
here, but they don't really need a defensive line since
their line is now monsterous. The Mules are working
on defense this off season, and they cleaned up well
in free agency with bolstering it. What's one more
defensive back to add to their secondary?

4. New Mexico Regulators - LB Boomer Sooner. With
the retirement of Greg Butkus, this is an obvious choice.
For some odd reason, GM Phill Bennett really has taken
to this guy, and he really wants Sooner on his team.
The LB corps is fairly thin, and Sooner may be the
best of the lot.

5. Molson Canadians - DE Marcus Lord. Trading away
Bryan Atkins is kind of risky, but they made that
choice. Lord is a monster, one of the best defensive
lineman I've seen in recent years. If Atkins would've
remained on the Canadians, they would have the two
best young defensive ends in the league. With just Lord,
their defensive ends may still be dangerous.

6. Tijuana Chiahuahuas - G Big McLargeHuge. This kid
is big. Real big. Real stud-like too. Last season
QB Jason Kanell was forced to make bad decisions and
throw the ball badly due to the offensive line letting
defensive players in the backfield. McLargeHuge is
the total package at offensive guard and will give Kanell
all the protection that he'll need for a long time.

7. Bay City Bruisers - LB Millhouse Van Houten.
Bay City could also go HB here, but I think the top
couple of halfbacks in the draft will be available
by the time Zach Bowers picks again. The Bruisers top
3 LBs are pretty good, but since they dealt Helmut
Van Schnitzel, they may need another one. Van Houten's
a good LB in a pool of weak LBs, and he should go #7.

8. Carteret Ramblers - LB Jeremy Donkers. The son
of SCFL Hall of Famer and current High Point Monuments
coach Harper Donkers could probably end up in Carteret.
This is a playoffs or bust season for the Ramblers,
and GM Joe Malloy may have to make a very careful
pick here. He could deal this pick for a LB or a center
by the 7 PM trading cutoff, or he could also go with
a center in the draft. The best center has good numbers,
but really weak EN and may be a turnoff. Watch where
this pick goes.

9. Bay of Plenty Bushwhackers - WR Efram Wright. Wright
is a top 3 pick easily, but the top 3 teams have glaring
needs. In fact, the top 7 teams have glaring needs,
with the Ramblers unsure of what they're going to do.
The Bushwhackers WR corps is depleting a little bit,
but Wright is an excellent target for Buddy Dribble
to throw to. Wright is going to make some teams pay for
not having WR holes.

10. New Mexico Regulators - G Paul Frey. A tough pick
for the Regulators here. They need a little more
offensive line depth that is not a tackle, so expect
them to pass on Chase Case. However, his EN is a question
mark. This is a tricky pick to predict.

11. High Point Monuments - DE Rudy Goldberg. The Monuments
would really like to get Jeremy Donkers, but it's all
up to what Carteret, and maybe BoP and New Mexico do.
If they can get Donkers, expect them to. If they can't,
expect them to bolster their defensive line with this
fine defensive end. His hands suck, but does it really
matter for a defensive end?

12. Molson Canadians - WR Derrick Craver. Expect Casey
Evans to pick up a wide receiver here that new acquisition
Willie Pike can throw to. Molson has quite a few tight ends
on their roster, but they need a speedy wide receiver
that can catch the ball. Craver has both attributes.
They could also use a halfback, but they can just
pick one up later since the HBs aren't strong this year.
