She reaches down to nuzzle the now lying filly, and flashes her a glance of concern as she pulls her head back up. The filly hadn't suckled for long... Maybe she wasn't very hungry, but she doubted that- foals seemed to always be good eaters, from her experience. She folds her knees and lowers herself down beside the filly, nudging her lightly under her chin and whispering, "Are you sure you've had your filly, my darling?" She brings her head back towards herself so that she can get a good look at the filly as she answers, to insure that every word is truthful... Her eyes flash with motherly concern. -- Rainbow Valley

She nudges the filly's chin once more, gently, pulling away to look her in the eyes, "Now, now, my little Celeste, you wouldn't lie to me about this, would you? I want you to be a strong, healthy, happy little girl..." Her voice chokes up near the end of her phrase, because she realizes it's up to the filly as to whether she'll nurse more, or starve herself.
