Subject: Actually, you can see Pine Martens jumping from tree to tree. I am referring to the Eurpean Pine Marten the one that mostly inhabits scotland. Although the American Pine Marten has a similar name they're scientific names are quite different. As are there hunting habits. The Pine Martens in Jacques books are based on those that inhabit scotland as they are the ones that he is familiar with.
In reply to: Fyre the squirrel 's message, "Thats true. I live in Canada. My cottage (in upper Ontario) is near a lake. Squirrels live not only in my backyard but up there too, as do martens. I see the martens in the trees. They do not jump from bough to bough, climbing horizontally and friskily jittering around in the treetops. Pine Martens just tend to almost casually walk on the boughs. They can climb vertically as well. Fishers work in the same manner. They just pluck the squirrels from their dreys or holes. I've seen one before. Twas quite... interesting. Basicaly I have about 6 squirrels as pets in my backyard, they are actually jumping around in the tree outside my window while I'm typing this message. Squirrels are faster, more agile and quicker. Martens are climbers, but are not as quick as the squirrel. So.. nyeh.." on 19:24:26 06/09/01 Sat
