I will be competing in a pageant later this summer in the Mrs. division. Is a velvet like material appropriate for summer competition? It's not a state pageant or anything like that, but still I want to WIN!

I see no problem with velvet. Pageant gowns are generally not seasonal and if you attend the Miss North Carolina Pageant in June I am sure you will see some velvet gowns there. Miss North Carolina wore a Purple velvet gown at Miss America last year. You might want to look at Encore Pageant Wear online. There are some nice gowns there, some are previously worn and some are new. The sizes vary. Good Luck!

I personally wouldn't wear velvet with the pageant being in the summer....you may want to look around at the mall, alot of their evening gowns are on sale really cheap now.

What type of material would you go with? Keep in mind I'm married and I'm no size 3...about an 8 or 10.
