Subject: George Will article in BN on power conference football

Read early today an interesting article by George Will about the greed of big time schools and their conferences in efforts to control college football with basically no regard for what we think of as student athletes. It is now becoming increasingly clear that players at this level are not amateurs in any sense of what we once considered that term to mean or that they are attending college for an education . Obviously there will always be some excetpional students who play at this level at many outstanding academic institutions but that is clearly not the norm any longer. Who knows where it is all going and what further turmoil awaits college sports and the NCAA in this arms race by the big boys and all the wannabes trying to keep up but one might applaud the MAAC and similar conferences where I believe student athletes attending good schools for an education is the prime objective. There almost has to be a subdivision of division one schools to accommodate the current state of affairs!
