Marty Marbach was my boss and I agree a great guy that my opinion was at the right place at the right time Villanova Wildcats he won a NCAA National Championship. I never got the impression working with Marty Marbach that head basketball coaching was his passion. It’s got to be number one like a Bill Belichick and a Jim Boeheim they were coaches where the game was number one to them. I never got that impression that Marty Marbach really loved the game like my other boss Mike McDonald loved coaching basketball bouncing around different schools coaching in Western New York. You didn’t see that with Marty Marbach and he moved back to closer to where he came from working in I think sporting goods as a buyer of some kind of business related to that job last I talk to him like almost 30 plus years ago.

Now UB Bulls anyone see UB Bulls are starting to use Bulls Mafia. I guess old BSF doesn’t have such bad ideas? Canisius College needs creativity until that is happening nothing is happening. Major marketing changes are needed and a lot more open mind ness with are older Canisius College alumni that have been use to doing the same things for far too long. Ask questions why are we doing this or that when you are donating. Donating is wonderful but if you don’t ask questions to challenge the people in charge to do better and change. There is no reason Canisius College can’t win a National Championship none. A college athlete doesn’t play basketball to lose. Well it has always been this way or it never happened before at Canisius College basketball isn’t an answer it’s an excuse. FAU were one shot from the NCAA National Championship Final Game.

George Halcovage wasn’t UB Bulls first, second or third choice he was the coach that accepted the low paying contract. UB Bulls basketball better hope this guy is the real deal because the UB Donors and UB the school itself embarrassed themselves. They spent $500,000 to fire coach Jim Whitesell who needed to go then offered the same low ball Jim Whitesell contract. Look I follow this program closely as a season ticket holder for over 30 years. There not a basketball school there a football school which I agree that should be UB Bulls focus because that is where UB unique is as Western New York’s only major college football program today. The problem with college basketball as a primary focus at UB is the Western New York market is split 4 ways between the Big 4 basketball schools and no NBA basketball in this market anymore so basketball gets overshadowed by the other three schools and the hockey. People blame the Buffalo Braves for ruining college basketball because the attendance went down it would have went down regardless of if Buffalo had NBA or not in the 1970’s when the NHL big league Buffalo Sabres hockey came. I think the Buffalo Braves leaving hurt college basketball yes the conferences forming was a factor but there are whole generation especially my generation that gave up basketball completely after the Buffalo Braves moved because of the bitter experience of losing a NBA team and how it all went down. Football there are less games one a week so it requires less commitment plus you got NFL football still here the Buffalo Bills to piggyback off of the Buffalo Bulls college football. College basketball doesn’t have the NBA cares that would have invested in area youth and high school basketball around here if the Buffalo Braves stayed. I think short of a NCAA National basketball championship this Western New York community is going to continue to be lukewarm at best with college basketball. The Buffalo Bandits NLL indoor lacrosse illustrates my point having won 4 championships fans like winners not losing and excuses. You need to win because the community just going to focus on all the other wonderful things that are here to do in Western New York in my opinion. Go Griffs! Let’s Go Buffalo

Enjoy the memories. The game has changed. NLI and the transfer portal are huge components. Top kids in the MAAC are bolting for cash. Go take a look. The MAAC has two schools who are doing something with NLI. Care to guess? Iona & Siena are well ahead. For us to remain competitive we need to figure this out. Then work through the vision for athletics & facilities. Go Griffs!
