The NIL money dried up at Iona when Rick Pitino went to St John’s? Anyone catch Rick Pitino St John’s press conference? He talked about buying the St John’s players through NIL. The St John’s priest that was the head of St John’s was proud of it. Why doesn’t Canisius College have St John’s priest that are proud of buying the college basketball players. This is the way the game of college basketball is played today. If I was the Canisius College basketball coach today. I would go door to door to Western New York businesses today for sponsorship for NIL for the Griffs players to be in the West Herr type commercials like Josh Allen and Steve Tasker. You don’t win without the players. Do I think Reggie Witherspoon can win the MAAC championship? Yes if he went all 1976 Canisius Golden Griffins basketball because what Canisius College basketball did under John Morrison is legal today in the NCAA with Larry Fogle and Charley Jordan. Buy the Griffs basketball players. You build a top 25 team you won’t need KAC you will fill Key Bank Center. But that takes work and a Griffs basketball business plan. Canisius basketball should be the number one promotional arm of Canisius College the school. The Griffs basketball program needs more can do over can’t do. If Canisius could do funny stuff in the middle 1970’s they can do funny stuff legal in the eyes of the NCAA today the NCAA have no power to stop it. The state of Texas passed a bill this week were it is illegal for the NCAA to place any Texas school under probation for NIL the state is proactive so the NCAA can’t go all SMU Mustangs ever again. Canisius basketball needs to go back to doing funny stuff again we had more talent then you get me a Larry Fogle we can win here it is possible with NIL he might leave in a year but than you go shopping again for another Griffs player. Oh I wish I had the money that is the avenue to go the Rick Pitino just buy the Griffs basketball players in my opinion. Go Griffs! Let’s Go Buffalo

Again, I say much yet, but the people posting on here will be very happy with updates soon. Until then, know that the campus has changed and gotten more proactive.

Why would businesses in WNY want to support NIL at Canisius when alumni, donors and the college admin don’t seem to care from a financial standpoint? Take a look at the numbers for giving day, MBB got 6K and was out funded by Hockey (44K), women’s rowing ( 16K) Men’s lax (10K), and baseball (7.8K). If you gave the entire MBB amount to 1 player that might be consistent with a middle-of-the-road MAAC team. No idea what Iona is paying and I agree that Pitino leaving hurts them but I have to believe that most folks that contributed last year are still putting out some cash regardless of who the coach is. Anderson is an ambitious young coach, he will find some money and players in the portal so I would not count them out yet.

The school cannot provide NIL money to an individual. It must come from an outside party.

So the fact basketball raised only $6 K is irrelevant to NIL. However, it does indicate that under RW interest in basketball, and the program's connection and interaction with alumni who donate, has reached what is probably an all-time low.

Buffalo Super Fan, how do you know that the school isn’t doing anything? This is new ground for everyone. We also live in a city which does not have tons of money. We’re lucky to have two pro teams. Businesses will support them first and perhaps the largest academic institution next. Not saying that Canisius can’t secure NIL money but it will pale in comparison to other school. Go Griffs!
