Seems to me to be a lot about nothing. The article is worthless. Someone who knows more than me please enlighten us. And how does this help men's basketball?

I'm told it makes a difference when trying to recruit Canadien or International students.

Completely loved and appreciated your post until you got to " I can't divulge details yet". Why not? What in the world could Canisius University be doing that can't be revealed? Absolutely nothing. You seriously could tell me they are doing anything and I might slightly raise one eyebrow.

The reason for not divulging is there is still some sign-off that has to occur, and I don't want to come on here making grand updates only for to go, "well, ya, obviously they decided not to do that."

I'll give a hint and say the kind of people who would read a college basketball message board, would be the kind of people who should like the potential changes.

We like that type of messaging.

Exactly. In most non-U.S. places in the world, the word "college" is used to refer to what we would call a high school here in the U.S. Canadian and international students, who are going to try to use their education they are getting here to get a job when they go back home, will always want their diploma to say that it came from a university. This will help in international recruitment of students and there is literally no down side to this move at all.

[> Re: Now, at long last, introducing, for the first time, "Canisius University" -- International Recruiting and Local Market.., Thu, April 27 2023, 20:11:25

Two reasons:
The move has everything to do with positioning Canisius to win more international students.

The designation of college vs. university doesn't really mean anything, but there are still people (and many in WNY) who think the difference in designation means that Canisius is a tiny liberal arts school with a couple of education classes, a couple of science programs, and a couple of business programs. There are even some people who believe that the other universities are superior or have more academic options based on their name. The name change puts that to rest.

The impact on basketball will likely be marginal, at most.

I will also say that more is coming. People will be very happy to hear about the focus and reorientation of Canisius, but I can't divulge details yet. It will take time, but the plan is really strong, and if executed well, could launch Canisius to unseen heights.

Lastly, for those interested in local flavor, Canisius's new name is technically The Canisius University of Buffalo New York...

When you build a brand you keep the message simple. Adding Buffalo doesn’t make much sense. There are several Loyola’s so adding the city or state makes sense. There is only one Canisius. Leverage this to the max. The best thing they can do is think beyond Buffalo. Enrollment is key and we need more kids from outside WNY and possibly international locations. Buffalo is a great place but it also has a stigma to those who have never visited. For the school to succeed this is a good first step but there needs to be more. Go Griffs!

The Canisius University of Buffalo New York is the official name. There are maybe two people in the world who will call Canisius that name...

I am excited if they use Buffalo in the Canisius University school name I will cry happy tears. It would be a much needed change to put us with Loyola University of Chicago idea I have discussed before. It’s smart business Canisius fans saying why does this matter it does. Canisius is in a battle for relevance in our Buffalo area today. To carry the Buffalo city name where the school is even from is a huge change in the positive direction. Hopefully we get a updated redesign Canisius University of Buffalo, New York logo for the athletic programs along with selling new merchandise hats, t-shirts and sweatshirts for much needed revenue for Canisius. Finally progress we haven’t seen in three decades it’s a miracle and a great day for Canisius if this does happen. To me this a huge step in the right direction and more important for athletics to be able to sell recruits where you are from without explaining to prospective recruits we are located in Buffalo, New York like a broken record in my opinion. Go Griffs! Let’s Go Buffalo

[> [> Re: Now, at long last, introducing, for the first time, "Canisius University" -- It's not about the Buffalo market., Fri, April 28 2023, 20:48:28

The school's survival strategy isn't about attracting more kids from Buffalo. It's the opposite. Buffalo's potential enrollment base is shrinking. There are too many schools and not enough kids. The economic base of Buffalo also favors a lower cost vs. private education. Selling t-shirts isn't going to generate the necessary revenue. The school needs to attract more students under grad & grad to 2001 Main Street. We're limited on real estate and we need to be smart on what our "real difference" is vs. similar schools. This isn't an easy task and let's hope we have a viable long term strategy. We haven't had that since Demske & Cooke. Go Griffs!

Can the book store please get rid of the blue and white lettered battleship grey sweat shirts? And please, less hoodies and traditional Canisius blue and gold sweat shirts again. I know the students like hoodies, but there are also Alumni/ae. Will there be "Canisius University" sweat shirts this Fall?
