Re: Official Statement Regarding RW -- PFM, Sun, March 12 2023, 14:55:14
Seriously! 1) We don't have 500 willing to pony up $500? Put me down as # 1 & I will add you as # 2...there 498 to go. How many contridutors to the site? They don't each have 500 bucks? The key to a buster club is that it is totally seperate from the AD. It decides how to spend the money and can earmark contributions directly to specific objective i.e. fund the salary of the new hire. 2) I am not suggesting boosters "actually recuit" a kid, but this site is full of any number of references about kids who might be a good fit at canisius, relatives, formerly offered who might be in the portal, children of former players, etc. all these "tips" could be funneled to this individual for evaluation and a possible offer, rather than a random post on this site that I doubt RW even reads. (By the way, most of the posters seem qualified to select a new coach so I assumed they were qualified to pass along the name of a talented player.) 3)I guess you know the rules, but I can't see how the IRS or NCAA could object a gift from the club
designated to the payment of the salary for this individual (I could be wrong not a lawyer or a tax accountant, you tell me.)

Re: Official Statement Regarding RW -- Griff, Sun, March 12 2023, 18:32:17
Oh my God. 500 people to give $500 each? You do realize that there are nights when they barely have 500 fans at a game right? And that includes married couples, kids, students etc. I doubt you are getting $500 from tuition paying students, 10 year olds, and/or both a husband and a wife.
So right now, if you give $500 or more to the Blue/Gold Club, you get preferred parking in the lower lot at the KAC - that has I'm guessing 75-80 spots. I'm not sure that I have ever seen that lot completely full. And there are Athletic Department employees and coaches who park there too. Contributors to this site? I would say 20-25 consistent with whatever random and often times unhinged ones that chime in now and then. So you are going to increase these numbers to 500 people?
Next! Do you realize how much time a Division 1 basketball coach spends recruiting? In high school gyms, AAU tournaments, on the road during all live periods, in home visits, etc. Do you really think that Chris Hawkins and Calvin Cage don't know who is in the portal, who is the kid of a former player, or a good fit? This is pretty much what they do for a living. They know everything about every kid that is a D1 talent. I follow this shit like it's my job and I don't know 1/100th of what they do. Sure it's fun to speculate and make suggestions on a message board but come on. We have people on here beating the table for Monsignor Martin kids. I'm a frustrated personnel director and lifetime NFL draftnik. I can't wait for free agency to begin this week. But do the Bills need me to give them "tips" because I watch college football games around the clock and every minute of the combine?
Money paid to a coach could be raised but would absolutely have to be funneled through an employer willing to participate in this. And I know Canisius would never involve themselves with such a thing. You can't just hand a shoebox full of money to a coach.
Look. I know there is an enormous amount of frustration. I'm at or near the top of that list. And I don't mean to be demeaning and/or toot my own horn. But people on here who know me, also know that I've been very closely involved with not only this program (more so prior to RW), but others as well. I've been to 5 star with coaches from all over the country. I've had coaches in my living room following a home visit with a recruit. I've worked camps, been in locker rooms before and after games. I've helped guys get interviews. I don't know it like someone who has actually done the job but I'd be willing to put my experiences up against most. The bottom line is that this is a very very fine line business. And while it's also COMPLETELY a results driven business, it's insane for anyone to think that the 4 coaches are just sitting around, collecting checks, and waiting for fans to tell them which WNY kids to recruit.

Re: Official Statement Regarding RW -- PFM, Mon, March 13 2023, 3:18:03
Obviously you need to expand the base, be creative, put butts in the seats, create a buzz, use social media! There is so much wroung with this program. The GoGriffs site write ups for each game are so mechanical, they don't tell you anything in detail about the team or the upcoming game or the latest on the players. The internet audio quality is so poor it is hard to listen to (the commercial come in just fine). I often listen to the other teams pregame and get better details. Fill the KAC. Invite a high/middle school to every game for free. Engage professors. Get some kind of assignment/attendance pass if you can show attendance at 5 games, I don't know, think about/do something to fill the place. Wouldn't you want to play in front of 2,500 not 250 fans? Give a soon to be new coach a year to get out in the community (and I don't mean just WNY) to right the ship.
Recuiting, fine, I will admit I know nothing about it. What I do know, however, is that what we are currently doing doesn't seem to be working too well. There are kids from all over the world playing in the MAAC, some even at Canisius, if the current staff has a handle on it so be it.
OK, so back to my original premise of raising money and a booster club. My old high school routinely raises between $750 and $1 million every year on giving day, so it can be done. And I can understand the college not wanting an entity that is compeating for dollars, but I don't necessarily think that a sports booster is the same person that is helping you fund a $50 million capital campaign. Booster clubs work, as a former trustee I am somewhat familiar with this one, check out the organization and structure (https://www.gatorboosters.org/). Not that I am suggesting ANYTHING so grand!
As the Chinese proverb says "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step", I sould know having just completed 1,200 miles on my trails app in the past 10 months!

Griff, we agree. Bottom line, all of us are super frustrated and want the situation to change. Tough to watch as an alum or fan. Hopefully the hockey team can get us a win on Saturday and build the Canisius brand. Go Griffs!

I think it's time that Griff fans step up , and help out with the financial situation the College is in. Please increase your annual donation. Stop all the bitching about Reggie, and be thankful we don't have to come up with big bucks to bring in somebody new. UB will probably come up with half a mil to replace Whitesell. Remember when the Bulls signed a successful high school coach from the Detroit area Nate Oats.

Re: Official Statement Regarding RW -- Wait, President's Steve campaign is coming, Mon, March 13 2023, 9:17:18
Some of us have stepped up. You're correct more needs to be done. Athletics will be part of the campaign but it won't be the leading message. He knows the situation we're in. GIVE GENEROUSY! Go Griffs!
