Re: Things are happerning at CU. (BG thinks) -- BfloGriff, Wed, August 20 2025, 13:33:00
We may have some Naysayers here. BG hopes that's not so. How can it be only Canisius University property is the only part of the E. Delevan-Jefferson-Main triangle block that is not unusable? There is an underground public subway stop, a well established, very busy bank building and the former Sears & Roebuck building and parking ramp occupying the space? The S&R space has been the CU Science Hall (uncompleted) for 10 years or so and CU used the parking ramp for years before the recent demolition.
CU put in a nice parking lot for Science Hall and the rest is a significant amount of green space that appears to be awaiting one, two or even three buildings in the future.
BG hasn't heard anything in years about the "highly polluted creek" (Scajaquada). Did S&R, the bank.the NFTA know about it? Did the the occupants across the streets in homes or businesses know? Did Canisius herself know? Did the City of Buffalo herself know? Does the City of Buffalo care about improving herself by making sure CU can improve herself ASAP? And in a spot smack dab right in mid City? Does the City need to get going here?
Indeed we should keep Lyon's Hall. CU needs her IMO, and will make good use of Lyon's, especially given the favorable result for CU in the litigation against her Insurance Co. for the damages caused in the 2022 Christmas blizzard. Perhaps the new Business School could go there, although Lyon's is a large building suited for multiple uses and the Business School would be a wonderful use for part of the green space. Also what would it cost to demolish and cart away and fill the void left by Lyon's ? Yikes!
This is the Age of Stoute. Let's grow CU and the Griffs!

Canisius knew about the problem and so did the City. If the work had to be done with the ramp still standing the first floor of the ramp would be destroyed to get in the ground. That would make the ramp totally useless until the job was done. The city should have assisted with the demo job dinances but I guess they did not.
