Subject: recruiting in today's world

For those who may be interested there is an excellent podcast by Bonas Woj which can be accessed on the bona site which gives an overview of international recruiting in this episode. It gives a sense of what recruiting is like today and the resources that must be allocated to be successful at their level. Where Canisius and the Maac is ultimately going to end up I assume is still being determined but it is clear that probably even at our lower major level the money that will be required to compete both by way of paying players and keeping a staff capable of bringing in players is going to be significant. The whole recruiting process as it exists today probably not even imaginable five years ago.

5 years ago it was called cheating. Schools would have gotten the death penalty for doing half the stuff that is totally legal now.

There are now reports online that schools are recruiting and signing players from the G league ,some of whom have already played a few years professionally .And they can make as much or more coming back to "college".

How can that be? They are pro's. If that happens, are young guys who played a season or 2 in the NFL,NBA,NHL or MLB going to come back to college for a few hundred grand after they washed out in the Pro's.

Oh boy, what level schools are those? Places like Duke? If that's so can the NCAA do anything to prohibit it?

And add a bit more: "Michigan State men's basketball coach Tom Izzo ripped the NCAA recent decision to allow former NBA G League players to play college ball.--- Izzo said today's college basketball has "no rules" and "kids aren't the problem, we're the problem."--- Any comments?

This is all a product of the corrupt money-hungry beast that the NCAA has been and continues to be. When the money was rolling in and the likes of the Ed O' Bannon tried to get some compensation for his likeness, the NCAA didn't want to have to pay anything out. Even as it progressed and a flat $ could have been an option the NCAA opted to stay greedy and not contribute back to the hands that fed. Now they have allowed it to be open season for any college with no limits, and they have set no rules or boundaries. Ultimately, these former D-League players add more talent and notoriety-thus adding more potential value to their big pay-day in March.

Holy Cow. (That's baseball-Phil Rizzuto, but BG is overflowing with G League info today. Also the NBA and heavy gambling news that broke earlier today.) LeBron might be ready to retire from the NBA. But he'll be "The Man" for many more years. BG thinks he doesn't have a college degree.CU has an excellent Business School. Do you think he would come to CU on an MBB basketball scholarship to play a few more years to earn a Business degree? Even at his age he would be"The Man" in the MAAC! He'd even get a little Coin.

Not hard to see why G League players want a piece of the college money - the article mentions the average G Laegue player makes just $40,000 a year - not even half of what Frank is getting for the upcoming season down at Bonas.
