Re: A Win is a Win -- If only that was the case., Fri, November 07 2025, 6:41:20
That isn’t the reason. The school never properly invested in the program as brand / extension of the school. If we did we would have been in the Eastern 8 & who would have known what would have happened. We are where we are. If you want to compete with the A10 schools you need to have at least a million in NIL. Compare Dayton’s NIL & ours. That’s the reality of today. Ask Frank Mitchell who is now wearing the brown & white. The game has changed unfortunately for the worse. Go Griffs!

Doubt that would have happened, we never built much on the successes we had at various intervals and our attachment to the Aud ended up not being beneficial to Canisius as it most likely was the main reason we didn't build a true basketball arena when Kessler was built in the late 60's, if we did not accept Lanier (which he denies) that was typical I think of Canisius' short sidedness relative to its athletic programs and maybe other areas as well. We did admit several pretty good looking freshmen this year though and hoping their progress gives us some better experiences this year.

BG's point here is simple. Bob Lanier wanted to attend Canisius College over a lot of other schools after graduating from Bennett High. The family lived right in the neighborhood. But his marks were rejected in the Academics Office. (A single Jesuit as BG recalls). That was in 1966. KAC was not built until 1968. At that time Bob MacKinnon was Basketball Coach as well as AD. Bob MacKinnon went on in his MBB career to NBA positions, ultimately to become GM to the NJ Nets. Bob Lanier's Dad ran a trash removal business at the time. BG's family home needed some stuff removed. A younger BG became friendly with Mr. Lanier who spoke while working there about where his son wanted to go to college. Canisius College period. The point is MBB at CC could well have gone on as Bona did with young Bob Lanier becoming a student and very significant and generous alumnus. Today BG believes a goal of President Steve and THE POWERS THAT BE at Canisius want to grow the University. Now how different things in Buffalo and at CU could already be. Go Griffs, y' know if the good ones stick around it can still happen.

Would have been nice to see Lanier, Anderson and Morrison on the court at the same time even just for one year
