Subject: Griffs Lose by 15 - That’s What a 100k Donor Gets You

They’re just better. Nothing is going to get any better until NIL giving goes way way way up or the system changes.

Something has got to change, even if a school like siena has lucked into a big nil contributor the entire system is not sustainable for any long period of time, the big money schools will just continue to buy away any good mid major player and more and more of the remaining fans will be walking away from supporting college basketball as it currently exists, the days of building a program by developing players over four years is gone, of "can't wait till next year with the players we have coming back" is a distant memory, just don't know how much longer the current situation can or should be sustained at schools like Canisius and Niagara and most other Maac schools!

Don't you think that's part of the plan? Uconn doesn't care if Canisius exists. More money and more players for them.

Friday night this team played with heart. Today their effort was pathetic! So many stupid mistakes. Short turnaround this week. Let’s beat Niagara. Go Griffs!

[> Talked to a Siena fan after the game -- GG, Sun, February 01 2026, 13:29:48

Not sure if completely true but the guy seemed to know what he was talking about and said they gave Shoats and the shooter (I forget his name) 50 grand each to pull their names out of the portal before the season. Also said that the freshman big kid got 20 or 25.

Seems about right. The other kid was probably Doty. The freshman big kid Folefac was very impressive today and actually wasn't that widely recruited. And to think that Shoats played at D2 Lock Haven for two years before coming to Siena.

[> FG Percentage and Points in the Paint -- Griff, Sun, February 01 2026, 13:56:34

54.9 to 38.6. Points in the paint 34 to 12. Their bigs have post games while ours jack up threes and miss layups.

We had 17 offensive rebound but only scored 5 buckets off these. We are pathetic inside the paint. And our 2 starting bigs, Wilmoth and Ndjonga played a combined 50 minutes during which they grabbed a total of ONE rebound. Incredible. But for a Javante and Mike’s hustle, we’d have lost by 30.

Spot on. How in the world did Ndjonga play 34 minutes and not get a single rebound? Not one! But he certainly managed to get 18 shots up - including 1-8 from 3.

Again you don't understand the current landscape of college basketball and the mindset of 18 to 22 year olds. And yes the Canisius education is a good one but not the only good one. So stay at Canisius and get 5k or go to VCU and get 50k? It's a no brainier. You are not convincing a kid to stay simply because "it's Canisius". You get them to stay by paying them and giving them an opportunity to excel at basketball. Where that happens for most kids is relatively insignificant.
